Gender Inclusivity eLearning
Solidaridad engaged Butterfly Works to create a gender-focused e-learning platform that would align with the organization's global internal learning strategy, developed by the Gender Task Force (GTF). The goal was to consolidate the Gender training materials into a single, cohesive platform, preventing fragmentation and ensuring easy, centralized access for all users. This platform would not only serve as a repository for training content but also facilitate a dynamic, engaging learning experience that encourages active participation, collaboration, and continuous learning among users.

My Role:
As project lead, I oversaw the development of interactive learning elements and clearly structured learning pathways for the eLearning platform within an LMS software. My focus was on enhancing knowledge retention while supporting Solidaridad’s commitment to advancing gender equality across its global teams. I ensured that the platform offered an engaging, user-friendly experience that facilitated effective learning and fostered collaboration among users.

The design challenge
The design challenge was to create an innovative, user-centered eLearning platform that seamlessly integrates structured learning with opportunities for exploration. The platform needed to incorporate interactive and social elements while being practical and scalable within Solidaridad’s existing infrastructure. The ultimate goal was to empower learners, enhance engagement, and establish a sustainable model for gender-focused learning within the organization.

To achieve this, the platform was designed to go beyond passive content consumption by including features such as communication tools, peer-to-peer learning opportunities, and gamification elements like rewards and milestones. These interactive features were critical for fostering engagement, motivation, and a dynamic, participatory learning experience. Additionally, ensuring a sense of ownership and collaboration among team members was essential to meet the diverse needs of users and guarantee the platform's success.
The outcome
The project’s key achievement was the creation and launch of a dynamic online learning platform featuring four gender modules, designed to deepen understanding and practical application of gender principles. Seamlessly integrated into the Kaya system and aligned with Solidaridad’s branding, the platform offered an engaging and interactive experience through activities and compelling video content. To ensure its effectiveness, we developed draft modules for user testing, accompanied by a comprehensive testing package that allowed for iterative refinements based on real user feedback.
Additionally, we provided a detailed handover package with clear guidelines, empowering the organisation to maintain and evolve the platform over time. This collaborative effort not only delivered a high-impact learning tool but also ensured its long-term sustainability and adaptability to diverse learning needs.
